Some potential suitors were mentioned in documents released by the city to the San Antonio Express-News that had also been requested by Texas attorney general Ken Paxton.
The first name to swoop in was Chick-fil-A’s largest competitor… KFC.
Company bosses sent airport officials a Facebook message inquiring about a potential deal just days after the city council vote.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg suggested in emails to angry residents putting San Antonio-based Whataburger in the airport.
There wasn’t much traction… especially when a group sued the city and the contractor.
A month after the vote… an airport official suggested just swapping Panda Express back in to ease the heat… but his boss said the damage was already done.
