    LEAD:

A Louisiana city was apparently missing a police car for weeks… but never reported it stolen until it was found torn apart in Texas…

    VERBATIM:

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office found a suspicious car… apparently dumped near the Red River north of Texarkana last week…

A check of the VIN showed it belonged… to the Shreveport police department.

KSLA-TV in Shreveport said the Texas police report noted it was very visibly torn apart… headliner and carpet were pulled out and the light bar wasn’t on the car.

A Shreveport police lieutenant called the sheriff’s office a couple hours after the discovery… and said it was a car used by their supervisors.

He said it had been missing for two weeks… but the department failed to report it stolen.

It’s not clear if the car had any weapons in it originally… but it was empty when deputies found it.

    Dennis Foley… TNR.
